Quizzing Officials and their Descriptions

 

1.         QUIZ-DIRECTOR

a.          Puts together rules, schedules, details and announcements for the running of the quiz league.

b.          Puts together questions for quizzing.

c.          Works will rally workers, hosts, and teams to put together the rallies.

d.          Oversees and directs all aspects of Bible-Quizzing.

e.          Keeps track of statistics.

f.           Communication of details to teams and officials.

2.         QUIZ-MASTER

a.          Oversees and directs quiz rallies.

b.          Must know Bible-Quizzing rules.

c.          Must be able to ask proper questions.

d.          Must be able to keep control of the rally and each quiz.

e.          Must pronounce questions slowly and clearly.

f.           Must be familiar with the content of the Scriptures being quizzed on.

g.          Should call, at his discretion, a foul on any team, coach, or other participant for conduct that is not in the best interest of sound Christian standards.

h.          Shall call, at his discretion, an error/foul on teams or individuals in accordance to the rules.

i.           Shall pronounce whether answers are right or wrong.

j.           Shall call for a test of lights at the beginning of a quiz, and after the tenth question.

k.          Shall state the number of question being asked and must say “Question” before reading the question.  EXAMPLE:  ‘Question number one, question…’, and then state the question itself.

l.           When the question being asked is interrupted by a jumping quizzer, the Quiz-Master will say, “Finish the question and give me your answer.”  (if the question was insufficient at the time of the jump) or say “Give me your answer.” (if the question was interrupted where a question mark could be placed and still express the essence of the question).

m.       The Quiz-Master is responsible to pick 3 judges before each quiz.

n.          Should make sure quiz lights are secured and placed properly.

o.         Will turn all contested questions over to judges and may confer as needed with judges.

p.          Will handle all procedural and rules questions.

3.         ASSISTANT QUIZ-MASTER

a.          Handles a quiz in a separate room from the Quiz-Master, if simultaneous.

b.          Leads rally in Quiz-Master’s place if he is unable to attend.

c.          When the assistant runs quizzes, the same job description as applies to the Quiz-Master is to be used, though the Quiz-Master is still responsible for the direction of the entire rally.

4.         JUDGES

a.          Three (3) judges will serve at each quiz, and may be recruited by the Quiz-Master if he feels they would qualify.

b.          One of the judges shall act as spokesperson.

c.          Will determine the accuracy of all contested answers and will make a decision, which will be FINAL.

1.         If the contest is synonymous to the original answer, the original answer remains correct.

2.         If the contest is in error, judges decide to uphold or reverse Quiz-Masters decision.

3.         If the contest is correct, judges decide to uphold or reverse Quiz-Masters decision.

d.          Conference among the judges should be done, as much as possible, outside of the hearing of the quizzers.

 


5.         SCORE-KEEPER

a.          Shall keep score and announce scores as the Quiz-Master asks for them at score-checks.

b.          Must be aware of rules on points, errors, bonuses, and announce when a quizzer has quizzed or erred  out.

c.          Help the Quiz-Master keep track of which question he is on.

d.          Tabulate scores at the end of each quiz and turn them over to the Quiz-Master when completed.

e.          Also tabulates all team’s daily tallies with the other score-keepers to determine finalists for the 3-way final.

6.         TIME & LIGHT-KEEPER

a.          Shall use a stop-watch during questions and time-outs.

b.          Keeps track of time-limits and informs the Quiz-Master.

c.          Shall see that jump equipment is in proper working order.

d.          Will announce to the Quiz-Master the first quizzer to have jumped up, his team and seat number.

7.         SCORING SYSTEM

a.          Correct answers = 20 points

b.          Incorrect answers = E

c.          Bonus correct answer = B/10

d.          Bonus incorrect answer = B/0

e.          Incorrect answers on questions 15 through 19 = E/-10

f.           20th question is double points, either correct, incorrect or bonus

g.          Quizzer that answers 5 correct answers without an error = 20-point individual bonus

h.          3 different quizzers on one team, answering a 20-point question correctly in one quiz = 20-point team bonus.  Each additional quizzer will earn the team an additional 10-point bonus.

8.         “TIME”

a.          15 seconds after the completion of a question, if no one jumps.

b.          30 seconds if a quizzer doesn’t complete the answer, after he has been recognized by the Quiz-Master.

c.          30-second time limit on a bonus question.  30 seconds to consider the answer, and must give an immediate answer when time is called.

d.          60 seconds for all time-outs.

9.         DROPPING LOWEST SCORES

After each rally, the Quiz-Director will review each team and individual overall yearly totals, and drop their lowest score to that point.  This will allow for a bad outing or having to be absent sometime.
